Biography
"In 1875 William took his family to Corning, Arkansas and lived there 3 years. In 1878 all the family, except for Lon, went back to Indiana and stayed until the fall of 1889, at which time they all returnd to MO and settled in Christian County."

According to Stella Stolz Davis, William's granddaughter, he joined the the Mo Cavalry in Springfield ad was in the Battle of Wilson's Creek. "He was riding a big black stallion. They were getting ready to charge one time and the stallion bolted and ran right through the enemy lines. They were shooting at him but he fastened himself on the horse and right on through the lines. After he got the horse stoppped, he had to hide until his company came through the lines and he rejoined them. One time he was captured with a companion and they were handcuffed together. They got away and made their way to the home of his companion. The father worked all night filing the handcuffs off. They made their way back to the company. " Allen told this story to his daughter Stella about 1929.
