Florence Amelia was born in 1879 in New Zealand. She was the daughter of Francis Cherry and Elisabeth Edwards.

On 28 December 1907 at the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland, she married Percy Walter Douglas.

They lived together until 1918 when she left him; and mutual separation was agreed in 1919. The divorce was finalized in 1922.

In 1923 she remarried to John Richardson,

a widowed farmer of Tarewa, Gisborne.
She passed away 11 November 1958 age 78 and is buried at Waikumete Cemetery with her parents, and John.
