Joseph Chester was born in Somerset, England.

Between 1841 AND 1871 he lived at the following residences and worked as a blacksmith.

  • 1841: Pole Street, Place: St Marys Redcliff, Gloucestershire, England
  • 1851 St Peter, Lower Cross Street, Place: Sharborne, Staffordshire, England
  • 1861: Saltley; Lander Street; Tachbrook Lane, Place: Aston, Warwickshire, England
  • 1871, Place: St Augustine, Gloucestershire, England

Joseph and Susanna had 9 children. A few of the Austin's including Thomas were Freemen of Bristol and also Joseph Chester as he married Thomas's daughter.

Son Edward is living next door in 1851 Sherborne Staffordshire. In the 1871 census Joseph is listed as unemployed.

Whilst relationships have been confirmed back to this ancestral couple of Joseph Chester and Hannah Austin following auDNA matches between six descendants on three different descendant lines to Veronica Williams, Unnamed DNA Coat, two grandchildren of Charlotte Slater Mills and a grandchild of Victor Chester Thornton, it is still unclear whether the segment on chromosome 16 belongs to Joseph or Hannah.
