Biography

Zilphia (Chestnut) Page is a part of US Black heritage.

Zilphia was born on February 28, 1886.^[1]

In the 1900 census, Zilphie was in Wilmington Ward 3, New Hanover, North Carolina. She was one of 7 children of Dallas and Louisa Chestnut.^[2]

In the 1910 census, Zylphia was in Wilmington Ward 1, New Hanover, North Carolina, United States. She was still in the home of her parents and was employed as a teacher.^[3]

In 1913 Louisa was living on McRae Street in Wilmington with her daughters Irene and Zilphia, who was a school teacher at Williston Graded School.^[4]

Zilphia Chesnutt married Eugene T Page of Nashville in St Mark's Church in Wilmington on October 26, 1918. Witnesses were Dallas Chesnutt and L J Davenport.^[5]

In 1920 Eugene and Zilphia were living on 14th Ave N in Nashville where Eugene was a postal clerk with the railroad. They had an infant son, Eugene Jr. Also in residence was Lillian Hill Page (9) Eugene's daughter from his first marriage as well as Eugene's mother, Sophie Anna Page (65).^[6]

Zilphia would resume her teaching career and in 1930 Eugene and Zilphia owned the home on 14th Ave N. Lillian, Eugene Jr and Sophie Anna remained in residence.^[7]

In the 1940 census Zilphia was in Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee.^[8]

The 1942 Directory shows that Zilphia Page was a teacher at Pearl High School.^[9]

Zilphia died in 1981 and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery.^[10]
