Fannie Estelle Chevalier, 1874-1929, was the daughter of George F. Chevalier and Sarah E. Wilson. Fannie married Sylvester Samuel Landon in 1891 in Meigs, Ohio. They had ten children who lived to adulthood.[1]
In 1880, the Chevalier family lived in Olive, Meigs County, Ohio. All members of the household were born in Ohio, as were their parents. The household included George Chevalier, 27, a laborer; his wife Sarah, 24; their children, Shelton, 6; Fannie, 5; Frederick, 3; and Wilbert, 1. Living nearby were George’s parents, three siblings and a grandmother.[2]
S.S. Landon and Miss Fannie E. Chevalier were married on 10 December 1891 in Meigs, Ohio. Justice of the Peace, E.O. Hoyt, officiated.[3]
In 1900, the Landon family lived in Olive Township, Meigs, Ohio. They owned their house without a mortgage. All members of the household were born in Ohio, as were their parents, except as noted. The adults could read and write. The household included Sylvester Landon, 30, born in May 1870, a farm laborer, whose mother was born in Ireland; his wife of nine years, Fanny, 26, b. Sept.1874, who had had four children; their four children, Gladys, 8, b. Oct. 1872, in school; Ulah, 6, b. Oct. 1894; Inez, 3, b. Nov. 1897; and Leander, three months, b. March 1900. Living nearby were two other Landon families.[4]
In 1910, the Landons lived on their rented farm in Peru, Morrow, Ohio. All were born in Ohio. The household included Sylvester Landon, 39, a farmer (stock farm); his wife of 18 years, Fannie E., 35, who had had seven children, all of whom were living; their children, all in school, except for the youngest two: Ula, 15; Inez B., 12; Leander, 10; Ellen, 8; Mattie W., 5; and Dennis, 1. Living nearby were William M. Landon, 57, his wife Millie, and their children.[5]
In 1920, the Landon family lived on their rented farm in Peru, Morrow, Ohio. The household included Sylvester Landon, 49, a farmer; his wife Fannie, 44; their children, all born in Ohio, Gladys B., 27; Varla N., 24; Julia I., 22; Leander H., 19, farm laborer; Ella M., 18; Mattie W., 14, in school; Dennis R., 11, in school; Robert D., 8, in school; Oren S., 6, in school; and Arden S., an infant.[6]
Fanny Estell (Fannie Estelle) Landon was born 25 September 1879 (1874) in Reedsville, Ohio, the daughter of George Chevalier (b. Meigs, OH) and Sarah E. Wilson (b. Reedsville, OH). She was the wife of Sylvester Landon. Fanny died, aged 53 (55), of ‘sugar diabetes’ on 17 December 1929 in Peru Township, Morrow, Ohio, and was buried at Ashley Cemetery.[7]
Fannie Estelle (Chevalier) Landon died, aged 55, in 1929. She is buried with her husband; two sons, Leander and Arden; and other family at Ashley Union Cemetery, Ashley, Ohio.[8]
Sylvester Landon and Fannie Chevalier are mentioned in the death record of their daughter, Ulah Norma Benedict, who was born in Ohio on 22 October 1894. She was married, and died, aged 59, on 11 May 1954 in Mount Gilead, Morrow, Ohio, and was buried at Rivercliffe Cemetery, Mt. Gilead, Ohio.[9]
