Biography

Note that the surname "Detcheverry" (various spellings) evolved into "Cheverie" (also varously spelled) in some lines.

MacIsaac & DesRoches (see Sources) say that Reuben was born 29 Sep 1795, son of Henri Michael Detcheverry and Euphrosine Landry, and that he passed away on 3 Jan 1900. (Note that this would have made him 104 at his death.) They list him as follows: "Reuben (Rhuben) (Chiverie) (Capt) Cheverie", omitting "Detcheverry". They list his four children, also, as Cheverie, which indicates that the name shift was completed in Reuben's time.[1]

Jean Bernard, however, uses materials from Stephen A. White and primary sources. He reports that the actual name was Urbain "dit" (meaning "known as") Reuben, born at Petite-Rivière, Prince Edward Island, "around 1801," and appearing in the 1881 census of Canada as age 80. He was seemingly the first-born of 7 children of Michel Cheverie & Euphrosine Landry (same as the parents shown by MacIsaac & DesRoches). About 1830, he married Marguerite Chiasson, daughter of Raphael Chiasson & unnamed mother. Bernard shows 4 offspring, all boys. He died on Christmas Day 1899, at a recorded age of 104 and was buried the same day. That year of death was also reported in a Charlottetown PE newspaper (which appeared 4 Jan 1900).[2]

Cheverie-42 and Cheverie-2 appear to represent the same person because: They are identical persons. Cheverie=42 was formerly Detcheverry-12. Debi...you misinterpreted the Wikitree message, i think/ I believe it referred to the creation of Cheverie-42 from Detcheverry-12. I clicked on Cheverie-2, & found that it uis still standing on its own.

This merge of Detcheverry-12 into Cheverie-2 should now proceed. I have found supplementary information on Detcheverry-12 (aka Reuben Cheverie), which I’ve added as a new paragraph in his Bio, and I have made corresponding revisions to Detcheverry-12, including revising his birth surname to Cheverie, which makes him into "Cheverie-42" (until he gets merged into Cheverie-2).
