DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Further note: I found an old note in my files from 2002. It reads, "I don't know about these Chownings. This doesn't look right. I think the online genealogists have jumped to hurried conclusions..." That was 17 years ago, and I don't think much has changed since then!

I agree with Sandra Malone. A closer look begs a re-evaluation. When and why did the separation in surname spellings occur? A posting of the actual documents for this family would be a great help, if someone has access to them. Are we actually looking at two different family lines? This is possible.

Chewning-96 and Chowning-596 are not ready to be merged because: Last name spelling needs to be resolved.\

Birth and death dates need to be researched further.

Chewning-96 and Chowning-596 appear to represent the same person because: Chewning-96 and Chowning-596 appear to represent the same person because: same spouse, relatively the same siblings, the same father, and similar vitals. The birthdate of Chowning-596, although not incorrect (before 1700) sends a RED FLAG to his father's Profile, and so should not be used as a birthdate.
