Biography

Jean-Chrysostôme Chiasson is considered one of the founders of Lamèque, New Brunswick

Jean-Chrysostôme was born on 8 March 1763 on Saint John Island (now called Prince Edward Island or PEI), which was then administered by the colony of Nova Scotia. He was baptized Jean de Dieu Chiasson on 21 June 1772 in Nepisiguit (present-day Bathurst, N.B.). His parents were Joseph Chiasson and Anne Haché dit Gallant. His godfather was Joseph Galand and godmother was Genevieve Laverne. He, along with his sisters Scholastique Chiasson, Lyduvine Chiasson and Pélagie Chiasson were baptised on the same day, as the Abbé Bailly was in the area. [1]

Also known as Jean-De-Dieu.[2]

He married Anne Daigre on 28 June 1790. The priest noted in the register that they were wed in Nepisiguit (Bathurst, N.B.) even though it was recorded in the Caraquet parish register. Were present Jean-Baptiste Daigle father of the bride, and Charles Doucet.[3]

According to one source he passed away in 1886, aged 94. But, it seems impossible as he was born in 1763... Most likely, 1856...

Chiasson-401 and Chiasson-631 appear to represent the same person because: This was the first Jean-Chrystome Chiasson. and it is pretty well recorded in Acadian records that his parents were Joseph Chiasson and Anne Hache and that he married Anne Daigle (daughter of Jean-Baptiste Daigle and Marie Therese Trahan) in 1790 in Carleton (Gaspe) Quebec and that they had the following children - Chrysostome 29 jan 1792 - Frédéric 20 nov 1794 - Augustin 31 août 1796 to 3 nov 1877 - Joseph-Chrysostome 1800 to 14 nov 1888 - Marie-Marthe 1803 - 26 mars 1897 - Jules 1804 to 28 sept 1819 - Lazare 1805 - Marie 4 août 1807 - Charles-Césaire 10 oct 1808 - Marie-Antoinette 2 juin 1810 . This is everything that MY records say. My spouse is descended from Joseph-Chrysostom Chiasson (1800 to 1888)
