Harry was born on 1 February 1852 in Chetnole, Dorset, England. He was the son of James Childs and Anna (Jeans) Childs.[1]
In the 1861 census Harry (age 9) was living in Yeovil, Somerset, England.[1]
He emigrated on the Hydaspes, leaving London in July, 1869, and arriving in Lyttleton, Canterbury on 30 September 1869. Hydaspes, arrived from London after a passage of 80 days. Harry is listed in the assisted passengers, single men, as a ploughman, Dorsetshire.
He married Jane Mary Willcocks in 1874.[2]
In about 1900 Harry (age about 47) was employed as a Blacksmith Also, fireman, CVFB Extinguisher Company, unsourced article "Heroes of fire at Lyttelton: Mr Harry Childs had a great record" in Ashburton, Canterbury, New Zealand.
He passed away in 1931.[3]
