Susannah Page Chiles was born April 28, 1701 in King William County, Virginia,
daughter of John Chiles and his second wife, Eleanor Webber, and descendant of Jamestown settler Walter Chiles.
Susannah married Joseph Martin, a recent emigrant from England. A romantic legend says that her Joseph was disowned by his English family after he fell in love with Susannah and married her. Susannah and Joseph were the parents of Joseph, Brice, William, John, George, Sarah, Ann, Martha, Mary, Susannah, and Olive .
Joseph Martin, Sr. and his wife Susannah were among the first settlers of Albemarle County, VA moving there about 1745. Susannah died about 1754.
