Biography

Mary Eliza was the daughter of Margaret Ann Cuthrell and John Hudson Chinn, and spent her early life in Davie County, North Carolina. In 1863 she married William Lafayette Brown. They were the parents of 13 children, three of whom died young. In 1877 they moved to Winston (now Winston-Salem) NC, where William and his brother Rufus started the Brown Brothers Tobacco Company.

William and Mary Eliza are buried in Salem Cemetery, Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co. NC[1]
