Benjamin is mentioned in Amos Otis’s Genealogical Notes of Barnstable Families as son of John Chipman.[1] John’s son, Handley Chipman, when he speaks of his mother, Elizabeth Handley (died 1725), refers only to his sister Rebecca in his memoirs written in 1796:[2]
I am not certain how old my dear mother was when she died, but I believe she was not far from 50 years of age, a pious woman.
O that I had regarded her prayers more, that she made in private with myself on one side of her and my sister on the other, often times, which I well remember.
