Biography

Myrtle Chitwood Coffey, 83, of Oneida, died Friday, May 20, 1994, at her home. Born in Winfield on January 18, 1909, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Louisa Trammell Chitwood, and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Howard Coffey; one infant daughter; one sister, Bessie B. Chitwood Washam; five brothers: Ray O. Chitwood Sr., Burton Chitwood, Frank L. Chitwood, Silas M. Chitwood and Kanie Chitwood. Survivors include one son: James A. Coffey and wife, Lorraine, of Winfield; one daughter, Sandra K. Jeffers and husband, Charles, of Oneida; two brothers: Ernest Chitwood of Oneida and Earl Chitwood and wife, Lillian, of Toledo, Ohio; sisters-in-law: Fernie Chitwood, Estella Vaughn and Cloria Coffey, all of Oneida; four grandchildren: Marcy Boles and husband, Terry, of Robbins; Mark A. Coffey and wife, Tonya, of Winfield; Charles Derek Terry and wife, Karen, of Oneida; and Jill A. Jeffers of Oneida; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were conducted Monday in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Chitwood officiating. Burial was in the Litton Cemetery. Special music was provided by Allan Matthews and the Bethlehem Baptist Church Choir. Pallbearers were Harold Dean Phillips, Jim Chitwood, Bill Duncan, John Chitwood, Roger Chitwood and Danny Douglas. Jones & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.[1]
