DEATH OF MR. CHARLES W. CHOAT The death occurred on Friday morning at his residence in Goldlay Road, Chelmsford, of Mr. Charles William Choat. a well-known builder, who was 74. Mr. Choat, who was a native of Chelmsford, was head of the firm of Messrs. Choat and Son, of Mildmay Road, which was founded by his grandfather in 1840. He was oldest builder and undertaker in Chelmsford, and was held in high esteem. Mr. Choat was twice married, and is survived by his widow, one son and one daughter; the younger son was killed on the Somme in 1917. Choat was a past president and treasurer of Chelmsford and District Master Builders' Association, and for some years a member of the of Referees at the Employment Exchange. He was a life-long attendant at the London Road Congregation Church. By the express wish of the deceased, the funeral was private, and took place at the City of London Crematorium on Monday. After the service, which was conducted the Congregational Chaplain, the ashes were strewn on Garden of Remembrance at Little Ilford Cemetery. The mourners were: Mrs. C. W. widow; Mr. C. Collin Choat, son; Mrs. V. Gramlick, daughter; Mr. F. T. Choat, brother; Miss A. B. Choat, sister; Mr. and Mrs. E. Batstone, stepson and daughter-in-law; Mr. Heath, and Mr. Lobb. In addition to the family wreaths, floral tributes were sent by : Harold and Johnnie; Len and Eileen. Ken and Win; Jack and Annie; Mr. F. Tunbridge and Family; and Mrs. Sutton; Mrs. Willis; Mrs. Coul and Miss Barrel!; Mrs. J. A. Rankin; Mr and Mrs. Wilson and Fred; Mr. and Mrs George Wray; Chas. Polkinghorne; Mr. Heath; Mr. Lobb; the employees, Messrs. Brown and Sons, Ltd.; Chelmsford District Master Builders' Association. [10]
Charles died on the 21st of December 1934 in Chelmsford, Essex, England and his estate passed probate on the 25th of February 1935 in London, England to his widow Emily Choat and to his son Charles Collin Choat (1883 - 1946).[11]
On 24 May 1935 the Chelmsford Chronicle advertised the auction of 15 houses, to be sold by the order of the executors of Charles' will.
