Marriage

Geneviève Mercadier, daughter of Mathurin (deceased) and Catherine Fourrier, married René Chaulé, son of Jean and Catherine Lafault (both deceased), of the parish of St-Paul, Poitiers diocese, on November 24, 1698 in Varennes, in the presence of Jacques Dugué, escuyer lieutenant in the king's troops, Abraham Bouat, Jacques and Jean Voyne. The officiating priest was Claude Volant dit de St-Claude.[1][2]

No issue from this marriage.[3]

Geneviève Mercadier died on 3 Sept 1699 on île Ste-Thérèse and was buried on the 4th in Varennes, the act giving her 27 years of age.[4]

Marriage 2

He remarried before 1705 with Jeanne Gazaille. No marriage record nor contract survives. The only notarial act found was dated 28 June 1706, conventions between him and his wife Jeanne Gazaille:

Two known children from this marriage:

  1. Michelle Cholet (dite St-Paul), born c 1705 (24 on marriage act); she married Jacques Cusson 22 Nov 1729 Montréal (ND)
  2. René Cholet, born and baptized on 13 Oct 1707 in St-François-de-Sales on Île Jésus. he married Marguerite Émery 8 Jan 1737 in Contrecoeur.[3]

Death

René Cholet died on 20 Dec 1708 and was buried on the 23rd in St-François-de-Sales de l'Île Jésus, aged around 40 per the record.[6]
