Biography

Iver was born December 8th, 1837 to Christen Johannessen & Kari Jansdatter on the Lerum Farm in Luster, Norway.[1] [2] He came to America when he was about twenty-three years of age and settled in Dane County, Wisconsin. He served three years in the civil war, receiving an honorable discharge.[3] Iver married Maria Andersdatter on May 10th 1868 in Modena, Wisconsin.[4] and settled on the farm which is now a part of the John Wilson Farm. There they lived until 1879 when they moved to Crookston, Minnesota. About 13 years ago they moved to Church Valley where they reside until a little more than a year ago. [5] [6] [7] [8] As Mr. Lerum was unable to carry on the farm work they moved to Urne, Wisconsin, where, in 1911, Mr. Lerum received a paralytic stroke which caused his left side to become entirely helpless. Nearly a week before his death he had a second shock which deprived him of the use of his right side, and also of his speech. On September 29th, 1911 the release came.

He leaves a wife and eleven children, three having died in infancy. The children are Joseph of Ten Strike, Minn, Ed, Chris and Frank of Crookston, Robert who is in the West, Phillip of Kellog, Minn, Will at home, Cary (Mrs. Adolph Orwick) Crookston, Minn, Inger (Mrs. Percy Bancroft) Rugby, N. Dak., Carrie (Mrs. Wm Jahnstone) Menomonie, and Clara (Mrs. Chris Barby), Durand.
