Harlan Leslie Christensen was born on 3 May 1909 in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, United States, son of Lauritz Christensen (1861–1933) and Ane Sophia Lund (1869–1944).

Harlan (29) married Bernice Idarose Betzer (28) (born in Minneapolis; daughter of Parker Howe Betzer and Clara Rose (Rogers) Betzer) on 2 July 1938 in Minneapolis. Their children were:

Education

Harlan attended the University of Minnesota, School of Mines and Metallurgy in Minnesota, United States, graduating in 1937. As part of his thesis project, he and two classmates panned for gold along the Salmon River in idaho; a field trip of actual mining.

After these projects were completed, Harlan was employed at the Savannah River Project for the Atomic Energy Commission. He retired in May of 1969.
