Harlan Leslie Christensen was born on 3 May 1909 in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, United States, son of Lauritz Christensen (1861–1933) and Ane Sophia Lund (1869–1944).

Education

Harlan attended the University of Minnesota, School of Mines and Metallurgy in Minnesota, United States, graduating in 1937. As part of his thesis project, he and two classmates panned for gold along the Salmon River in idaho; a field trip of actual mining.

Occupation

Harlan was employed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The projects he worked on include:

• Fort Peck Dam, Montana
• Black Hills Ordnance Depot, Edgemont, South Dakota
• Navy pier, Escanaba, Michigan
• Chief Engineer, Veterans Hospital, Minot, North Dakota
• Garrison Dam, Riverdale, North Dakota

After these projects were completed, Harlan was employed at the Savannah River Project for the Atomic Energy Commission. He retired in May of 1969.
