Biography

OBITUARY: Jimmie Keith Christian, Sr. of Van Alstyne, Texas passed away June 10, 2018, at the age of 79. He was born September 25, 1938, to William Wesley Christian and Dorothy (Self) Christian in McKinney, Texas, where he was raised. Later, Jimmie made his home in Van Alstyne, Texas. He served his country proudly in the United States Army after being drafted in 1962. He served with honor and distinction as an M-1 sharp shooter, before being honorably discharged in 1964. After leaving the service, he embarked on a successful professional career, working for Texas Instruments more than 35 years and Accenture Consulting for 12 years.

Jimmie’s passion in life was his family. He loved each member of his family dearly. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, because the entire family would gather at his house in Van Alstyne to enjoy food and make lasting memories together. He never missed family events—graduations, weddings, sports activities, eating out weekly with Keith, movies, and watching Kevin work on his jeeps in the shop. A favorite memory for Jimmie was attending NSync concerts together with Renee, his youngest daughter, and her friend.

His family remembers him as a great mechanic and an avid farmer who was happiest tilling the soil and working the land. They also remember his skill as a carpenter and woodworker. A driving element of his life was his deep and abiding love of the Lord. He was a longtime member of Elmont Baptist Church in Van Alstyne where he served as a Deacon for many years.

In addition to his dedication to the Lord, his family and his career, Jimmie had a passion for softball. He coached his older daughter, Kayla, during many little league softball seasons, and enjoyed playing with the Texas Instruments softball team for many years.

Jimmie is survived by his sons, Keith Christian and wife Shawnda and Kevin Christian both of Van Alstyne; daughter, Kayla Murphy also of Van Alstyne and Renee Christian of Sherman, Texas; grandchildren, Sarah DePiesse, Audrey Owens, Connor Christian, Ashleigh NeSmith, Seth Swaim, and Shae Swaim; great-grandchildren, Katee DePiesse, Isabelle DePiesse, Madeline DePiesse, Norah DePiesse, Wesley Owens, Parker Owens, Beckham Owens; and brothers, Larry Christian and Garry Christian.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Christian.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2018, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. Interment is to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flowers are gladly received. Memorial donations may be made in Jimmie’s honor to Elmont Baptist Church 13999 FM 121, Van Alstyne, Texas 75495.
