Biography

Andreas Christie was born in Montrose, Scotland in 1620. He was married twice: 1) Bergene, Griselle Vernton, and 2) 1672, Bergen, Anna Henrichsdatter Gyttri. He passed away at Bergen in 1694.



Research Notes

Andrew Davidson Christie moved from Scotland to Bergen where he became a burgess. An Anders Christie is noted as having some connection with George Gordon of Banff and Bergen, and perhaps acted as his sponsor in Norway. Christie was married to Grisele Vernton, widow of Thomas Beg and later Anna Henriksdatter Gyttrich. He had a son, David Andersen Christie who was baptised on 17/06/1673 and died in 1719. Source: N. Andrew Davidson Christie (ca. 1620-1694), born in Montrose, Scotland, .. became a citizen of Bergen in 1654. At 10 years old, he was sent to attend Bergen Cathedral School. At 16 years old, he was a student at the University of Copenhagen. In 1799, he became candidat juridicum.[2]

"...That trip focused on Andrew Davidson Christie, a native of Fettercairn, who set sail for Norway in 1648 and went into business in Bergen.....His wife’s family home was Guthrie Castle..........Their ancestor Andrew Davidson Christie had sailed away from Fettercairn in 1648 to make his home in Bergen. ....“We have found the grave of the parents of Andrew in Fettercairn some years ago...Nicolai Christie and his family from Oslo came to donate to the Montrose Museum a family tree and crest showing all the descendants all over the world from this one man, Andrew Davidson Christie.....“I also took them to Fettercairn to see the grave and to the original settlement at Balnakettle farm now on the Fasque estate."......Fettercairn churchyard still contains the grave site of William Christie, Andrew’s father."[3]
