Margaret Weir Christie married Thomas Dysart August 7, 1908 in the Parish of Dalziel in the County of Lanark, Scotland.[3][4]
Their first child Anna Dysart was born August 1, 1909 and Margaret and her child emigrated to the United States on the ship Caledonia in Oct/Nov 1909 following Thomas who had traveled in July 1909. The Caledonia's Manifest of Alien Passengers for the United States sailing from Glasgow on 30 October 1909 and arrived New York on 7 November 1909 includes: Margaret Dysart, age 27, married female, housewife who can read and write, born in Scotland, nationality Scotch, last permanent residence Motherwell, Scotland, “Mother Mrs. Christie on 35 Edwan Street Motherwell is listed as the name and address of nearest relative in county whence alien came, final destination is listed as Saint Louis Illinois and Annie Dysart, age 10 weeks.[5]
The 1910 U.S. Federal Census records Thomas Dysart, age 26 born in Ireland, as a carpenter working on the Rail Road living in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Thomas has his wife Maggie age 27 and daughter Annie E. age 8 months with him and they are lodging in the home of David and Annie Cairney.[6]
The 1920 U.S. Federal Census records Thomas Dysart, age 37 born in Scotland, as a carpenter in a Biscuit Factory living in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. In his household are his wife Margaret age 36 born in Scotland, daughter Anna age 10 born in Scotland, and daughter Agnes M. age 6 born in PA. Thomas, Margaret and Anna are recorded to have immigrated in 1909.[7]
Mrs. Margaret Weir Dysart, a housewife, residing at 1039 Hallam Street, Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania in her Petition for Naturalization dated April 25, 1927 states that she was born on June 5, 1882 at Edinburgh, Scotland. She married Thomas Dysart August 7, 1908. Thomas was born December 7, 1882 in Port Glenone, Ireland. She emigrated to the United States from Glasgow, Scotland on or about the 30th day of October 1909 and arrived in the United States at the port of New York on the 7th day November 1909 on the vessel Caledonia. She now has three children: Anna Ewing Dysart born August 1, 1909 in Scotland now residing in Wilkinsburg, PA; Agnes Mae Dysart born October 3, 1913 in Pittsburgh, PA now residing in Wilkinsburg, PA; Margaret Elizabeth Dysart born January 15, 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA now residing in Wilkinsburg, PA. Margaret attests that she has resided in the United States since November 7, 1909 and in the State of Pennsylvania continuously since March 17, 1910 and now declares her intention to become a citizen of the United States. Mrs. Margaret Weir Dysart stated her oath of allegiance before the court and was declared a citizen of the United States on September 15, 1927.[8]
The 1930 U.S. Federal Census records Thomas Dysart, age 47 born in Scotland, as a carpenter in a construction company living in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. In his household are his wife Margaret age 47 born in Scotland, daughter A. May age 16 born in PA and daughter M. Elizabeth age 5 born in PA. Thomas and Margaret are recorded to have immigrated in 1909.[9]
The 1940 U.S. Federal Census records Thomas Dysart, age 56 born in Ireland, as a carpenter living in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. In his household are his wife Margaret age 57 born in Scotland, daughter Agnes M. age 26 born in PA working as a stenographer and daughter Margaret E. age 15 born in PA. [10]
Margaret Weir (Christie) Dysart died December 21, 1948 and was buried in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.[11]
An Obituary for Margaret Christie Dysart found in The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Thursday, December 23, 1948 reads: “DYSART – At home, 1039 Hallam St., Tuesday, December 21. Margaret Christie, wife of Thomas Dysart, mother of Mae Dysart and Mrs. Betty Herron, grandmother of Christie Mate Herron. Friends and members of Daughters of Scotia received at Leslie Funeral Home, 721 Brushton Ave. Services Friday at 1 p.m.” [12]
