He was listed, age 17 and unmarried, as an apprentice blacksmith in the 1851 Census, living as a Lodger with Walter and Elspet Duncan at Moss Street, Keith, Banffshire.[1]
However, the 1861 census has him as a ploughman residing at Glengerroch, Keith, Banffshire age 27, and unmarried.[2]
On 4 Jul 1861 in Wester Windy Hills, Grange, Banffshire, 27-year-old farm servant James Christie of Glengerroch, Keith, was wed to domestic servant Margaret Merson (1840-1925) of Wester Windy Hills.[3] The couple had at least eleven children. They resided in Keith, first at Whitestone & later at Oldmore, before moving to Whitestripe in Rathven between 1881-1891.[4][5][6]

James Christie, a retired crofter, died at Myreton Croft in Grange, Banffshire at the age of 79 from “morbus cordis” (heart disease) on 13 May 1914 at 9:15 PM.[7] He was buried in his parents’ plot at the Keith Graveyard.[8]
