Biography
John was born in 1827[1] in Stirlingshire, Sotland.[2]
He married Janet Gourlay in Logie, Stirlingshire on 15 November 1859.[3]
They had children:
- Isabella (1860)
- Ellen/Helen Campbell (1864-1942)
- Edith/Elizabeth Gourlay (1867-1957)
- James Robert Christie (1869-1904)
- John William (1871)
- Jessie Margaret Christie (1877-1971)
- Henry James Christie (1876-1962)
John, Janet and eldest daughter Isabella emigrated to New Zealand in 1862 on the Sir George Pollock landing at Bluff in January 1863.[4] Their second child was born on the voyage. Janet's sister Jane/Jean emigrated with them.
The family settled near Invercargill.
He passed away in 1920, aged 93 years,[5][6] and is buried in Eastern Cemetery, Invercargill.[7]
