He passed away 2 November 1944 at 5 Steep St, Dunedin. The funeral was from Trinity Methodist Church to Andersons Bay Crematorium

The will did not leave anything to his widow. A successful court challenge for maintenance from the estate was made by the widow under the Family Protection Act.
