Research Notes

  1. Family legend held that Evelyn Christopher was the daughter of Luie Christopher and Effie Chalberg. However, Evelyn was born over 1 year before Luie and Effie married. After Evelyn's death, her birth certificate was located and identified her parents as Arthur Earl and Effie Chalberg, who were not married.
  2. The 1920 US Census lists Luie, single, in Williamsburg, Phelps County, Nebraska; he is listed on a page with an actual enumeration date of 10-12 Feb 1920. This is after the date of his marriage to Effie Chalberg in Overton, Dawson County, Nebraska. However, the effective date of the 1920 US Census was 1 January 1920. Regardless of the actual enumeration date and marital status at the time, individuals were enumerated in the county where they lived on 1 January. That is why Luie is listed as Single in Phelps County three days after he married Effie in Dawson County.
