Biography

Christian, son of Abraham and Juliana Chronister, was born 14 May 1810 in Adams County, Pennsylvania.[1] About 1833 he married a woman named Juliann with whom he had twelve children, seven of whom died in childhood:

By 1850 Christian Chronister (age 41, farmer) and his wife Julia (42) were residing in Franklin Township, York County, Pennsylvania, with their children Israel (12), Mary Ann (11), Amos [sic] should be Ammon (10), Adam Chronister (9) and Asher Chronister (7).[65]

Before 1860 they had moved to Latimore Township, Adams County, where the household included Christian (age 49, farmer) and Julia Chronister (52), their sons Ammon (17), Adam (16), Asher (13), Israel (21, farmer) and Israel's wife Angeline (Myers) Chronister (27), and their daughter Mary (Chronister) Erb (20), her husband Peter Erb (27, stone mason) and Mary's daughter Julia Ann (one month).[78] Still in Latimore Township in 1870, the aging Christian Chronister (age 60) and his wife Julian (61) lived with their son Asher (21, farmhand) and had the resources to engage two farmhands—Joseph Shank (20) and Daniel Mummert (10)—as well as a domestic servant: Lydia Deardorff (18).[79]

The 1880 census shows Christian Chronister (age 70, retired farmer) and Julia (71) domiciled in Reading Township, Adams County, with two of their granddaughters: Ida Chronister (8) and Mary Jane Erb (17).[80]

Christian died 1 January 1895 in Latimore Township and was buried there at the Lower Bermudian Lutheran Church Cemetery.[1]
