"John Chudleigh and Thomasine his wife, sister and heir of John Prouz, son and heir of Sir Richard Prouz, knight, of Ashton, held Ashton in 13 Edward III (1340). He was son & heir of Sir William Prouz & Margaret his wife, aunt & heir of Sir Robert de Hilion, son & heir of Sir Hervey de Hilion, son & heir of Sir Robert de Hilion, son & heir of Hervey de Hilion, son & heir of Alan de Hilion, brother & heir of Hervey de Hilion, son & heir of Robert de Hilion (and of Mabel, his wife, daughter of Sir Alan Dunstanville), son & heir of Hervey de Hilion, son & heir of Robert de Hilion, son & heir of Hervey who held Ashton in the time of William the Conqueror, as appears by Domesday Book."
