Elijah was a wheelwright. He married Mehitable Williams on December 1, 1801, in Amherst, Massachusetts. They had seven children during their marriage: Clarissa (died as an infant, Horace, Alonzo, Theodosia, Cephas, Nancy and Mary H.
Mehitable died in 1818. Elijah then married Sarah Dana on May 2, 1820, in Amherst, Massachusetts. They had five children together- the first three died as infants. Elijah died of consumption on November 21, 1843, in Russell, Massachusetts, at the age of 63, and was buried in his hometown.

A. From his Find A Grave Memorial: [27]There has been some information conflict with Elijah being confused with his father (Giles) with children. My (unsubstantiated) theory is that Elijah's official name was "Giles Elijah" & he was called "Elijah" to avoid confusion with his father or that Elijah's middle name was "Giles".
