Biography

Ezra was born about 1782 in Chebogue, Nova Scotia, British Colonial. He married Elizabeth Ann Trefry, daughter of Joshua Pitman Trefry II and Elizabeth Kinney of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. about 1802 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. Ezra was employed in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.^[1]

Ezra died on 16 October 1806 at sea.^[2]

A Record of The Shipping of Yarmouth Nova Scotia by J. Murray Lawson, page 109; Yarmouth Times 26 Aug 1885; Brown's Genealogy. Ezra was a mate on the Yarmouth brigantine Hibernia. He was lost at sea with his ship in 1806 at Mud Island just off the south east coast of Nova Scotia in mid winter. All hands perished. The ship was a 53 ton brig carrying general cargo from the City of New York. The master was John Valpey. The ship was owned by Samuel Marshall, and John Valprey. Valpey, Captain John: John Valpey master, from New York for Yarmouth with general cargo, was wrecked at Mud Island in midwinter. "All hands perished." (Bates); "1806 "Hibernia" bgtn 53 tons, John Valpey Master, Ezra Churchill Mate, wrecked on Mud Island. Bodies of Churchill and Valper (sic) washed ashore on Seal Island and were buried here, north end."
