Biography

Hannah Churchill, daughter of of Josiah and Elizabeth (Foote) Churchill, was born 1 Nov 1644, in Wethersfield, Connecticut.^[1][2]

Hannah Churchwood [Churchill], daughter of Josiah Churchwood of Wethersfield, married Samuel Royce, son of Robert, 9 Jan 1666/7 in New London, Connecticut.^[3][4]

Hannah was not named in her father’s 1683 will according to the copy in the will book made by the clerk.^[5] This has led genealogists to conclude that she died young or married and died without issue. However, she married with an error in her name ie. Churchwood, but the record also says she was daughter of Nathaniel of Wethersfield. She and Samuel had children between 1669 and 1688, including two born after the 1683 will. Possibilites: clerical error (need to examine the original will if it still exists), father disowned her, father advanced her, her share, before the will, or he simply forgot (“out of sight, out of mind.”)

Hannah died before 5 June 1690 the date her husband Samuel remarried to Sarah Baldwin.^[6]
