Thomas Chute was born on 30 January 1690 in Rowley, Massachusetts. His parents were James Chute and Mary (Wood) Chute.
Thomas was married on 11 December 1712 by Dr. Cotton Mather to Mary Curtis of Boston. He lived in Boston and Marblehead some thirty-five years, as tailor, trader, deputy sheriff for Essex County, etc.
In the spring of 1737, Thomas closed his business in Marblehead and moved to Windham, Maine, where he drew Home Lot #12 and set about building a house. He later purchased lots #13 and #14 as well, and cleared seven acres on each. Thomas was the first person to settle in Windham and served the town throughout his life -- he was elected Clerk in 1762 and served as selectman in 1765 and 1766.

Thomas died in 1770 in Windham, Maine. He is buried in Chute Cemetery; however, the epitaph on his headstone incorrectly states that he was born in England[1].
