Joseph was born in 1777. He was baptised on June 18, 1877 in Detroit, Michigan.

He first married Thérèse Bonit dit Livernois on July 24, 1804 in Detroit, Michigan. Therese passed away on January 25, 1806.

Joseph married a second time, on July 25, 1809 in Windsor, Canada at Assumption Parish to Archange Delise.
