Roll of Honor
Walter Cigoi was a Prisoner of War during World War II.

Illinois National Guardsman called to federal duty, on November 25, 1940, as a member of B Company, 192nd Tank Battalion. He fought in some of the first tank battles of WWII involving American tanks in the Philippine Islands. After Bataan surrendered he took part in the death march and was held at Camp O'Donnell and Cabanatuan. He was selected to be sent to Manchuria to be used as slave labor. While on the Japanese hell ship, Tottori Maru, he became ill. He was taken off the ship on Formosa, now Taiwan, where he died. He was buried at a British Military Cemetery at Hong Kong since his remains were mixed with those of British POWs.
