Alvido (Al or "Beans" to his friends) was born in 1907 to Benjamin and Cora (Busby) Cimeley. Most people have trouble saying the last name but it's pronounced like the word Simile. His father was from Italy and change it from Ciamaglia to make it easier but that didn't work out so well.
Alvido O. Cimeley, 85, of Paducah, Kentucky, died on August 26, 1992, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. He was born August 17, 1907, in Chicago, Illinois, to Benjamin and Cora (Busby) Cimeley.
He married Birdie Ethyl McLain, who survives. Other survivors include his son, Wayne R. Cimeley of Paducah; a brother, Roy Cimeley of Round Lake, Illinois; a sister Nicolette Shaffer of Tempe, Arizona; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His parents, a son Gene, a brother Walter, and a sister Mary Peters preceded him in death.
Mr. Cimeley was a retired supplies distribution manager for Illinois Bell Telephone Company. He was active in the First Baptist Church in Paducah, a member of the Board of Trustees of Montrose Baptist Church in Chicago, and past president of the Chicago Area Council of Baptist Men.
He was a past vice chairman of the Baptist Missionary Training School in Chicago, past board member of the Colgate-Rochester Divinity School, past chairman of the Board of Park Ridge Baptist Church, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northern Baptist Seminary in Oak Ridge, Illinois, and elected as honorary life trustee in 1978.
