Biography

Descendant
Descendant of First Nations Christine Aubois.

Marie-Anne was born at Port Royal Acadia on February 5 1710, to parents Jean Clémenceau and Anne Roy. Her father was a Sergeant in the French King`s service. Sadly, her mother died when she was 7 years old. The family lived in Port Royal in 1714 but eventually some of them moved to the French territory of Port Toulouse îsle Royale (now St Peter`s Cape Breton, Canada).

In 1729 Marie-Anne married Nicolas Lavigne, son of Claude Lavigne and Francoise Le Dorez, at Port Toulouse. Nicolas was a coaster and a native of St-Denis France. He had lived in Port Toulouse since 1727.

According to the 1752 Census at Port Toulouse Marie-Anne gave birth to at least six children between 1733 and 1750: Anne, Nicolas, Marguerite, Madeleine, Barbe, and Genevieve. When Genevieve was around 8 years old, the french fortress at Louisburg fell to the British.[citation needed] The British deported many of the Acadians to France. Marie-Anne and five of her children were among the deportees to St Malo on the British transport Queen of Spain.[citation needed] Tragically, she died at sea enroute to France, along with three of her younger children.
