Seen variously as Raleigh, Rolly and Rawleigh Clack and Clark, this son of Spencer Clack and Mary Beavers was born June 4 1772. “Rolly“ married Mary Randels in 1791.[1] Following the death of Mary, he married Martha Kerr in 1816. Children include Elizabeth Kerr, William Miller, Margaret Frances Butker, Eliza A, Robert Newton and Rebecca Levena.

The disputed territory “over the mountains” that became Tennesee in 1796 and Kentucky was claimed by Virginia and North Carolina until 1790 when it became United States “Territory South of the Ohio River”[2]. Here Raleigh volunteed in McGaughey's Company, Knox City Regiment, Hamilton District Millitia from 1792-94.[3] He also served as a private in Company A of the East Tennesee Millita in the war of 1812.[4]


Rolly lived in Kentucky in the 1790s[5] and later Rhea Tennesee[6] and died at age 70 in 1842. [7]

"Raleigh Clack, a son of Spencer Clack was born June 4th 1772, and was married to Mary Randels Oct. 28th 1791. His first wife having died, he was married again Aug. 15th 1816 to Martha Kerr. He was a resident of Kentucky for a time afterward moved back to East Tenn on the French Broad River, owning a large farm in the fork of French Broad and Pigeon rivers. Later he bought a large farm in the 3rd civil district of Rhea Co., Tenn. and moved to it where he spent the rest of his life.He served in the Army under Gen. Jackson in his famous campaigns against the Indians and was in that memorable battle of the Horse Shoe in 1814. He died Dec. 16 1842 and was buried in the Clack cemetery near his residence where a marble slab marks his last resting place."

(History of the James Clack Family in America, By Adella McDowell Clack). After his marriage, in 1791, Rawleigh moved to Wayne County., KY. While in Kentucky, he served as a volunteer provate in McGaughey's Company, Knox City Regiment, Hamilton District Military, south of the Ohio River 1792-4. Rawleigh was a Kentucky resident for a time, but moved back to eastern Tennessee. He owned a large farm in Sevier County, located in the fork of the French Broad and Pigeon rivers, Later, he bought a tract of land in Rhea County, near Yellow Creek, where he spent the rest of his life.

Issue of Raleigh Clack and his second wife, Mrs. Martha Kerr Clack:
a. William Miller Clack, born May 2, 1817; married Isabella Gist Wilson (who was born May 13, 1819, and died Dec. 30, 1895), Sept. 2, 1841. He died Feb. 14, 1911.
