Biography

Edward Claffey was born in about 1864 in New York, USA. He was a house carpenter or joiner. His parents are not known at this time.

In 1884, at 20 years old, Edward married Sarah Raymis, a French Canadian woman who was 28 years old. According to the 1910 US Census report, they had had a total of 5 children but only 2 were still living in 1910. Their 2 living daughters were:

  1. Annabel Claffey, b: 1887 in New York, USA - a musician
  2. Agnes Claffey b: 1894 in New York, USA - a student

In 1910 the Claffey family lived on East Salinas Street in Onondaga Township, Onondaga County, upstate New York, USA. By 1913 they had moved to the nearby city of Syracuse, New York.

On January 28, 1913, Annabel Claffey, 26 years old, married Pliney Clayton Peet, an American living and working as a machinist in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, but born in Parishville, St. Lawrence Co., NY. The marriage certificate identified Annabel's mother as Sarah Raymis, a native of Canada. Annabel was born in Brasher Falls, St. Lawrence County, New York, USA.

In 1920 Edward & Sarah (Raymis) Claffey lived on S. State Street in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, USA. Their youngest daughter, Agnes Claffey, age 25, still lived with them. Edward was reported to be 56 years old and his wife 63 years old. This report states that Sarah was an English-speaking Canadian, not a French Canadian. Edward is still listed as being a house carpenter and neither of the women of the household declared an occupation.

Edward Claffey was reported living in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, on the 1930 US Census. He was said to be 66 years old and a widower, living with his daughter Annabel (Claffey) Peet, her husband and 2 children. Sarah (Raymis) Claffey had passed away.

It's not known when Edward Claffey died, presumably in Syracuse, New York, after 1930.
