Notes for KENNETH ALAN CLANTON, SR.:

Kenneth (Sr.) was born in the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and had to remain for several days after his mother had returned home. It was recommended that he stay for observation to be sure his lungs cleared up. Betty started using Dr. Charles (Charlie) Holman and we will always say he is the best. Ken was a handsome young man growing up in Albany and he was a good person and loved to work in the yard around his parent's home and his own property after marriage. The landscaping around his pool and home looked like the work of a pro.

He was sent to California for training in the U.S. Army Reserve. He worked several jobs growing up - delivering the Albany Herald; clothing store for men; traveling food salesman and management position: golf course management and greens supt. Ken had a dream of owning a golf course and having security for his family. He could never reached that goal, although he tried as hard as his strength would let him. Some of his work can be seen at Grand Island Golf Course and River Pointe Golf Course. If he had been successful with his dream, either would have been a beautiful Course in this part of the country. Toward the end of his lifetime with the ones that loved him, he began to drift apart trying to make his dream come true without any help. His feelings must have been that he had failed his family, love ones and friends. The failure must have been a heavy burden to carry alone. He spent Thursday night, March 9. 1995 at his parents home and was to have supper on Friday night, but never returned. That Friday morning at 10 A.M., he was to meet with one of the owners of the River Pointe property, grasping for the last chance of his dream. After the meeting, he went to Dawson Country Club, Dawson, Georgia to talk with Jeff Fleming, who he had worked with for two years. In the two hours at Dawson, Jeff stated, that Ken was very much depressed and was not the Ken, he had known. Before leaving, he told Jeff to keep a check on Bubber [Ken's son Alan] and make sure everything was okay. Ken left after this statement with a good bye. He called his father and mother on the telephone at 8:56 PM ending at 9:05 PM, and the conversation went - "Where are you Ken" and he told his father, I am home by myself and I cannot find Cile. His father said your supper is on the stove and we thought you were coming by before going home. Then he said, "Daddy I wanted to call and tell you and mama that I love both of you more than anything and if I have done anything to hurt you, I am sorry and please forgive me". His dad said hey, we love you and everything is okay. His father begged him to come to Albany, but he said, "No". Then his father said, let me come to you and I can be there within the hour. Ken said, "No daddy, I've got to go someone just drove up". Ken was ask to phone back after he finds out who drove up to his house, but his father and mother waited for the phone to ring. The call never came through. His dad called several times, but would receive a busy signal each time he called. Later his father saw a copy of the phone statement and it appeared Ken tried or did contact his daughter April at 9:08 PM ending at 9:15 PM for 7 minutes. About 10:30 P.M., the Miller County Sheriff office called and told Ken's father not to leave his home until he called us back because he was sending a officer to the house to verify that Ken's truck was at his home. This was done and we received a call to come directly to the Sheriff Office in Colquitt, Georgia. His mother and father drove there and was escorted to Ken's home on Highway 27 North, Colquitt, Georgia and found him about 12:05 AM, they arrived too late. His death was Saturday A.M. March 11, 1995. Ken was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery, Dawson Road, Albany, Georgia on March 13, 1995. His friends and family friends came to show their love and to comfort a grieving family. It was told that at least 300 or more people attended his funeral.

As a young man Kenneth accepted Christ as his Savior and was Baptized and became a Member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church. At that time the old Byne Church was on the corner of N. Jackson Street and Society Avenue in Albany, Georgia. Ken is missed and someday we may meet again.
