Niclas Clap was baptised 25 August 1633 in Istha (in what was then the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel and now is in northern Hesse) as the son of Geise Clap and his wife Trine Brylander; see Image 1. [1] On 2 December 1659 in Istha he married Elisabeth Pötter; see Image 2. [2] He was buried 19 (or possibly 14) July 1717 in Istha; see Image 3. At the time of his death he was a church elder, that is, member of the lay governing board for the local parish of the Reformed Church. [3]

According to local genealogist Lutz Breidert, [4] Nikolaus and his wife Elisabeth had a total of 10 children in Istha:

Anna Catharina Clapp, baptised 3 February 1665, buried 21 January 1737
Anna Clapp, born ca. 1672, died 6 July 1757 at age 85
Elisabeth Clapp, baptised 26 April 1674, buried 29 August 1711
Johannes Clapp, confirmed 1692 (implies birth in late 1670s)
Henricus Clapp, baptised 31 May 1680, buried 31 January 1685
Hans Henrich Clapp, baptised 31 December 1682
