Biography

Barbara Maria CLAPP and Daniel MAY Sr. were married in 1752 in Berks Co., PA. They had 16 children.

Daniel signed a will in 1821 in Orange Co., NC. Abstract: To my Beloved wife, Barbary May - her maintenance on the plantation whereon I now live. She shall have the dwelling house and all houses on the plantation. To be divided between my four sons as follows:

David - his part adjoining Andrew Whitsell line
William - The old place with his mother
Daniel - his part adjoining Christian Whitsell line
Jacob - The part next to old Hillsborough Road

David, Daniel and Jacob shall pay their sisters:

Mary Albright
Barbary May
Katherine May Thirty five dollars, to be paid within two years of my death.

My beloved wife, Barbara May shall have my household and kitchen furniture with all the farm _____ she wants for working her garden. After she dies to be divided equally among my children. To my beloved wife, Barbara May: horse best, one cow. To my daughter, Barbara: large spotted heifer Catherine: one red heifer The remainder of my estate, after my debts are paid, to be equally divided between my children and wife. My sons, Jacob and William will be my executors. Witnesses: James Nelson and Samuel Curtis.

He died on 11 April 1821 at the age of 98 in Orange Co., NC. Will proven for name at place on date. Daniel May's obituary, Raleigh, NC Register, May 1821, says that he had 16 children. He may have been the Daniel May, age 20, who arrived in America aboard the ship LOYAL JUDITH, 2 Sep 1743. They resided in Orange Co., NC. See page 249 ACB book.

From the May Family Reconstruction Website: The MAY family descended from Daniel MAY, Sr., born about 1722 in Germany. It has been suggested that he might be the Daniel MAY who arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship "Loyal Judith" in 1743. He married Barbara Clapp and settled in Orange & Guilford Counties, NC. He died 4/11/1821 at age 99 in Orange Co., NC. His obituary says he had 16 children. The two testees who are closely related match 24/25. Testee 3 matches testee 1 25/25 and testee 2 24/25. All three testees are now verified to be direct descendants of John Wesley May, born 4/13/1859 in Guilford County, NC. John Wesley May is believed to be the great-great-grandson of the immigrant, Daniel May Sr. This family is 25/25 to family 108 and 122 for testee 1 and 3 and 24/25 to family 108 and 122 for testee 2. Testee 1 is 36/37 to family 122. Testee1 - John David May Testee 2 - William Dean May Testee 3 - Michael Edward May

His obituary said he had 16 children, 187 grandchildren and 84 great grandchildren when he died. (total 287 descendants)

Clapp-723 and Clapp-107 do not represent the same person because: Caution: Unusual information. Is the following correct?

It's unusual for a mother's birth date (Clapp-107 born 1737) to be more than 55 years before the birth date of one of her children (May-3614 born 29 Apr 1793) .

Source above has last child Joseph born 1779 so something is probably wrong with the list of children attached. Still looks to me like Clapp-723 and Clapp-107 should merge
Clapp-723 and Clapp-107 appear to represent the same person because: They represent the same person now, wife of Daniel May (John Phillip Clapp was married to a different Barbara and FAG is wrong, most likely)
Clapp-723 and Clapp-107 do not represent the same person because: Looking at the two profiles, I am not seeing the connecting links to prove they are the same person. They may be. BUT I am not comfortable with the merge at this time.

Clapp-723 and Clapp-107 are not ready to be merged because: I don't want to lose this potential merge so putting it here
Even the fact that Barbara Maria's father named her husband a May as an heir? Childrens' names show family pattern as well (Ludwig, George, Tobias, Barnhardt, Sophia)... of course, the Germans did mostly use the same dozen names...
Clapp-1513 and Clapp-107 are not ready to be merged because: don't think this person married Daniel May
