Biography

Arthur was born on 9 July 1806 in England.

He migrated alone to Western Australia on the Gilmore arriving on 15 December 1829.[1] He arrived as a servant of Richard Meares.

Arthur married Jane Crampton on 21 March 1843 at the Wesleyan Chapel, Perth.[2]

He bought Perth Town Lot V33 in 1835 and was listed as an agricultural labourer in the 1837 Census. Arthur was farming on his own account by 1845.[1]

Arthur departed in March 1849 on the Arpenteur for South Australia, with his wife and children following in September 1850 on the Daphne.[1]

Arthur died on 7 July 1861 in North Adelaide[3]. Arthur was mentioned on a memorial in West Terrace Cemetery, Adelaide, Adelaide City, South Australia, Australia with a death date of 9 July 1861.[4]
