Biography

Samuel Clapp was born the 18th of November, 1695, at Scituate, Plymouth County, Masschusetts Bay[1], the son of Joseph Clapp and Abigail Allen.[2][3]

He apparently married Sarah (Curtis) Clapp, the 7th of January, 1725/26, at Scituate.[4] "Apparently", because he is styled as "junr" in the original town record. This could be a recording error or there could have been another Samuel in the area & "junr" was used to differentiate the two. His father Joseph did have a brother Samuel, but he is not mentioned in their father's Will & there is no record of him, other then his birth.

Probate

Samuel Clapp of Scituate died intestate and on 22 April 1767, Benjamin Jacob of Scituate was granted the administration of his estate.[5]

The will of Samuel Clapp was presented and disallowed by the court in Boston on 2 March 1768. [6]

The Will of Samuel Clapp was recorded in the Plymouth town records. He mentions his wife Sarah, and his children, Samuel Clapp, William Clapp, and Sarah Randall, wife of Samuel Randall, and his grandchildren, Samuel Randal, Elijah Randal, Mary Randall, Sarah Randall, and Michael Clapp.[7]

His inventory was taken on 28 April 1767 in Scituate.[8]

In 1768, an account of his estate by Benjamin Jacob was recorded which included, debts paid, 24 days going to Boston, an attorney, and administration fees.[9]

In 1770, his inventory was recorded again.[10]
