Biography
Asahel Clapp was born circa 1783 in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.[1][2] He was a son of Asahel and Esther (Clapp) Clapp.
His baptism was conferred 11 May 1783 at Northampton.
He married first, Sarah Clark. She died 14 Feb 1808.
Asahel Clapp married second, Rachel Alvord, with whom he had 5 children, born at Northampton [3]:
- Alonzo Clapp, b. 1809 [4]
- Edwin Henry Clapp (1812-1894), b. 4 Sep 1813; d. age 84, Adams, Wisconsin
- Julia Ann Clapp, b. 2 Aug 1817 [5]; married Joseph Marsh; d. 10 May 1884, Springfield, Massachusetts
- Charles S. Clapp, b. 27 Jan 1821 [6]; d. 6 Feb 1898, Bennington, Vermont
- Sylvester Clapp, b. 11 Dec 1824 [7]; married twice, no children; d. Northampton
Asahel Clapp died on June 2, 1865, in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.[1][2][8] He is buried in Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.[8]
