Biography

Redegon Clap {q.v. Clapp}, daughter of Nicholas Clap and Elizabeth Pile, was baptized May 7, 1609 [1]at Sidbury in Devonshire, England. [2] [3]

On October 20, 1637, Radegon married, as his first wife, Deacon John Capen, at Dorchester, Massachusetts. John was the only surviving son of Bernard Capen and Joan Purchase to immigrate to New England. He was baptized January 26, 1612/3 at Dorchester in Dorset, England. [2] [3] [4]

John and Ragdon Capen signed the covenant of the Dorchester Church in 1638. [2]

She died December 10, 1645, Æ 37, at Dorchester, Massachusetts. [2] [3]

After her death John married second, Mary Bass at Dorchester on September 20, 1647. [2] [3] [4]

John died on April 4, 1692, Æ 80, at Dorchester. [2] [3]

They had the following two children at Dorchester.

  1. Joanna Capen, born October3, 1638 and baptized November 4; died an infant on November 19, 1638. [2] [3] [5]
  2. Lieut. John Capen, Jr., born October 21, 1639 [5] and baptized on October 29; died June 8, 1707, Æ 68, at Dorchester; married November 19, 1663 Susanna Barsham, daughter of William and Annabell Barsham of Watertown, Massachusetts. She was born on January 28, 1641/2. [2] [3] She survived her husband. Twelve children of the family.
