December 1638 -- Richard Clarke was not listed on the passenger list of the ship "John of London" on which Rev. Ezekiel Rogers and his group sailed from England to Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. They then spent the winter at Salem. [1]
August 1643 -- Richard Clarke and Alice Unknown married at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. They were the second couple married at Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [2][3]
Sometime between 1643 and 1650 -- Richard Clarke bought the house lot of Thomas Elithorp on Bradford Street, Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [4]
Richard Clarke was a town officer. [5]
1656 & 1660 -- Richard Clarke was an overseer. [6]
1666 -- Richard Clarke was a selectman. [7]
The death of neither Richard nor Alice Clarke was recorded at Rowley, but his death occurred before 22 Feb 1673 when an inventory of his estate was taken and valued at £43.3.10 less debts of 21.7.0 total 21.16.10 of March 31, 1674. His wife Alice was not mentioned, it is probable that her death preceded his.[8]
Richard Clarke's Will on file at Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts dated 7 Feb 1673 and proved 31 March 1674: "Having disposed of my children in marriage and not having much to dispose yet that all Love may be continued betwixt my son and daughter my will is that my son John Clarke shall have all my stocke in cattell horses sheepe and swine and two thirds of all my provisions and implements of husbandry he paying all my debts and funeral expeses. Itme my will further is that my daughter Esther Hobkinson shall have all my household goods (excepting the Read Ruge that is upon my bed which I give unto my son John), and the other third part of my provision and implements of husbandry. My will further is that my son John shall be the sole executor of this my last will: unto which I set my hand this 7th day of February 1673." [9][8] [10]
