Note: John James Clark was from Orangeville, Ontario. His sons were put out on their own when they were very young. Albert James was away from home when he was 9 years old. He and Aunt Gladys were very close when she was young, but she never heard her father mention his dad. His second marriage was to the girlfriend of his son Lindsay , who went up north to Klondike, Alaska and died there . Tom Clark`s daughter Jean wrote in her account of the Clark history that the girls name was`Elizabeth Thompson`. Note from Bertha Bates at age 85 living at Alliston, Ontario: I couldn`t have been more than ten or twelve when she (referring to her mother Maggie Johnston nee Clark) told me about their life and her mother`s death(Eliza Ann Clark nee Montgomery). They lived in some kind of shack, as she called it, in Melancthon Township fourth line. He (John Clark) drank a lot and they didn`t even have enough to eat. Her mother died in childbirth and Tom (the baby)was thrown away at the foot of the bed as being dead. She (Maggie) found him and took him home. Made clothes for him and kept him, I think, until the father (John) took him out west. The second wife was definitely Lizz Thompson and shelived on the third line of Melancthon, not too far from Grampa`s (John`s) and not far from my mother (Maggie) and dad. Mother certainly didn`t appreciate her or him.
