Biography

Spouse: Joseph F. Little

This person was created through the import of Weaver.ged on 03 January 2011. The following data was included in the gedcom. You may wish to edit it for readability.

Note: Mary Clark's birth date is problematic because she would have married at age 9 in order to birth Dennis Hankins. Also there is a considerable age difference with Masters Hankins.

This marriage may not be the one that produced Dennis Hankins due to confusion caused by a father and son lost in a river drowning accident. Some family members may have adopted others. Records are scanty.

Mary Clark married Masters Hankins, and during the marriage litigated against her father, John Clark, sister Hannah Clark, and an appointed guardian for Maria Clark in the 1802-1804 time frame:

"Whereas Richard Green and John Clark, administrators of all and singular, goods, chattels, rights and credits, which were of Henry Clarke, deceased, the said John Clark in his own right, Masters Hankins and Mary his wife, have sued out their summons of the office of the clerk of the court of the common pleas for the District of Horry and state of record, against Hannah Clark and Maria Clark, a minor by William Hemmingway her guardian, to appear and show cause on the first day of the said court why a division of the following negro slaves, to wit: Dave, Prince Jimmy, Hester, Moll, Delia, Nell (he child), ofance, Footy, Lara, Sue in Charlotte, should not be made."

  • Scrap of another's writings indicating that Masters Hankins was married three times. This information seems at odds with the existence of a senior and junior Masters. The elder was likely married only to Mary Bacot, with the younger married to Mary Clark and then in 1809 toward the end of his life to Amelia Lewis (Daniell) after she was widowed.
