Major John Clark Jr. is mentioned in a new book "George Washington's Secret Spy War..." by John G Nagy, 2016 NAG, call #973.38 NAG. Major Clark recruited Quakers to participate in the Clark Spy Ring. His first recruit was Cadwalader Jones Jones-27374 in Oct 1777 as recruited by Major John Clark. Cadwalader was a Quaker from Chester Co. Others were men of Elizabethtown - John Meeker, the Hatfields, and the brothers Baker. (see Daniel Baker Baker-31891)
This book page 300 note 6 states that Clark was born 1751 in Lancaster, PA and was that he was appointed aide de camp to Major-Gen Nathaniel Greene on 14 Jan 1777. Page 94 states that Major Clark was a member in 1777 of the 2nd Pennsylvania Battalion of the Flying Camp.

FAG gives a biography from An excerpt from "History of York County, Pennsylvania" (1886) ....which relates his service in the Revolutionary War and which states: Gen. Clark left to survive him five daughters: Mary, Harriet, Lavinia and Juliana, and another daughter married to Mr. George Bedinger, Shepardstown, Va., and one son, George Clark, who was living in York in 1834.
