Alamo Defender
M.B. Clark was born in Mississippi Territory[1]and was one of the Alamo Defenders.
M.B. Clark came to Texas early 1835 and settled in Nacogdoches, Texas.
He enlisted in the Texas revolutionary army to serve in the Siege of Bexar Oct-Dec, 1835. He served in the company of Capt. John M. Chenowith who assumed command after his own commander, Peacock was killed, Dec, 1835 during the siege of Bexar. January 27, 1836, M.B. enlisted in the company of Capt. John M. Chenoweth. [2]
[3] M. B. Clark was one of the volunteers traveling with James Bowie to the Alamo in 1836. If so, he been back to Nacogdoches for Christmas leave, returning in 1836 with Bowie and company. Part of this is a form the group signed in Texas and was turned in for reimbursement called C.M.S.R. This form was reimbursed, and was used by the Republic of Texas to establish Clark's presence at the Alamo Garrison. [4]On Jan 27, 1836, M. B. Clark is still listed in Capt. Chenowith's company.
Louis Moses Rose, (who did not stay to fight the Mexican army), left before its fall, was interviewed later. He remarked that he saw PVT Clark still in the mission prior to its Fall. (Republic of Texas later interviewed everyone they could find to be sure of each man's identity and death in the Alamo before proceeding with granting land bounties.) [5]
M. B. Clark was killed in the Battle of the Alamo, March 6, 1836. A memorial is in San Fernando Cathedral. [6][7] [8]
Note: Heirs of M.B. Clark applied and were awarded a bounty by the Republic of Texas. https://s3.glo.texas.gov/history/archives/land-grants/index.cfm
