Obituary appeared in the Alma Signal Enterprise, August 14, 1888 - Page 3. "Death of Grandfather Clark" John Clark died at his home on Snokomo, last Thursday night. The deceased was born January 12, 1811 in the state of Kentucky, where he resided until he was twenty years old. In 1831, he moved to Indiana and in 1833, married Mary Flora "Polly" Murphy. As a result of this union, eleven children were born, of whom five are now living. In 1849, his wife died leaving him with a large family. Two years later, he married Sophia Rice, to whom eight children were born. Seven are now living. In 1877, he removed from Indiana to Kansas, and the remainder of his days were spent upon his farm in this vicinity. By dint of hard work and sober habits, he amassed considerable property. Again, on the 17th of January, 1884 he was called to mourn the loss of his beloved wife and earthly companion, Sophia. Mr. Clark was in poor health for some months previous to his death, but in the past six weeks had constantly grown worse. All that medical aid, kind friends and loving hands could do would not stay the hand of death, which made its appearance Thursday night, August 16, 1888. Of the twelve children now living, ten were at his bedside, also an only brother and his wife. In the death of Mr. Clark, his children sustain an irreparable loss of an indulgent, kind and loving father, the church one of its most active and influential members, for he was known to be a devout member of the Christian Church for more than fifty years, the community one of its best known and most highly respected citizens. The funeral services took place at his home, August 18, conducted by Rev. Ellis. Ten of his children attended the funeral. Of his forty grandchildren, twenty-seven were present, and of the ten great-grandchildren, six were there. A large concourse of people followed his remains to their last resting place in the Bethlehem Cemetery, Snokomo. "There is no death! What seems so is transition. This life of mortal breath, Is but a suburb of the life Eternal, Whose portals we call Death.
He is buried at Bethlehem Cemetery Paxico, Wabaunsee County, Kansas, USA.
