Biography

Birth & Childhood

James Clark was the son of James and Jerusha (Bullard) Clark. He was born on August 25, 1735 in Medfield, Suffolk, Massachusetts. His birth is recorded in the vital records for Medfield. [1] Subsequent births of James' siblings are recorded in Medfield through 1757, [2] so he likely remained in Medfield throughout his childhood.

Marriage

James was married to Sarah Kent in Weston, Middlesex Massachusetts, on September 9, 1762. [3] The record of their intention was published on June 25, 1762 in Weston. [4] Weston was originally part of the Watertown settlement of 1630, but until the end of the century, the land was used mainly for grazing cattle. In 1698, “The Farms” was set off as a separate precinct with its own meetinghouse; and in 1712-13, the “Farmers’ Precinct” was incorporated as a separate town, Weston. [5]

Military Service

His military service per War Department Archives: James Clark, Ensign, "Capt. Noah Miles’ Company which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775 to Cambridge and joined John Whitcomb’s regiment; service 11 ½ days.

James, Private, "Capt. Elisha Jackson’s company marched under command of Major Bridge on the alarm of the Battle of Bennington from Westminster to East Hoosick and was there dismissed; service 10 days in August 1777. Also Capt. Jackson’s company, Major Bridge’s regiment; service 27 days. Marched from Westminster to reinforce Northern Army agreeable to service of Sept. 22, 1777." [6]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
